THE COURTYARD HOUSE

The client for this project had a very distinct vision for the aesthetics and layout of this house. Our job was to bring it to life. Inspired by a blend of Central American and ancient Roman precedents, this courtyard house was designed to be a sanctuary set apart from the dense urban fabric of the surrounding street. Built on an irregular lot, the shape of the building often demanded compromise where tradition would have demanded symmetry. The materiality - plaster, terra cotta, and exposed timbers - enhances the character of the architecture, adding texture to it’s dynamic site lines and cozy niches.
